Today I was (yet again) reminded of the importance of hanging with like-minded people. The solo biz world can get lonely, and while I actually love being alone I cannot deny the positive impact of spending time with another small biz owner and talking our language! Challenging thought patterns, offering advice, sharing ideas. It’s all SO good. So, if you’re a fellow solo biz owner...organise coffee or some co-working time with another solo biz owner. Trust me, you’ll feel more alive because of it 🌸
These ladies are about to wake up in London to host their own little event about Igniting Your Voice in Business. These are two of the graphics I created for them to promote the event. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ More and more am I being asked to create 3-4 different sized versions of the same graphic. Ie. Instagram post size, Instagram story size (usually a version with and without space for them to add their own text), Facebook cover image, etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have fun ladies, @elliehswift @heart_sparks! Probably not the uplifting quote you expected from me..but I’m getting there! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This week at a leadership conference I was challenged with the idea that failure isn’t a bad thing. It might not even be a neutral thing...dare I say it...it might nearly be a good thing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Stay with me here...I avoid failure like the plague. I carefully curate a life of sticking to things I am good at, things I will rarely fail...and on the off chance I do fail, I make sure that no one knows about it or throw out the phrase, “eh, I don’t even care”...when in-fact I do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Perhaps instead, were I to make friends with failure, I’d realise that failing isn’t cause for shame but for celebration having risked trying in the first place. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Humans rarely ever start something with immediate success...and if I tiptoe around failure how much am I missing out on? How much am I shielding myself from that might actually bring me, and those around me, joy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, I’m going to redefine failure in my mind. It’s going to be my friend. I’m going to share ideas and risk rejection. I’m going to learn violin (and play in front of others) and risk making a fool of myself. I’m going to make phone calls and risk forgetting my words and stuttering. I’m going to create and launch a course and risk it not taking off. I’m going to pitch my products to shops and risk them saying, “no thanks”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Failure for everyone looks different. I’d love to hear what you’re going to try and risk failing! I won’t be doing any of these this weekend. But I hope you do. Especially the last one. 🌙 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I film the odd wedding video as a side side hussle, so that’s what tomorrow’s plans are for me. I will also probably spend Sunday playing with my iPad Pro. Hubby gave it to me this week as an early birthday present and I am thoroughly enjoying it. And I actually would love if you do check box 4 this weekend, I’m already registered, but you should be too! 🧠
